#23 Is this really the end? Or just the beginning ...

My Learning 2.0 journey has definitely been worthwhile. I have learnt about many technologies and possibilities I was hitherto unaware of, or not fully aware of. It opened my eyes!

My favourite discoveries were LibraryThing, Bloglines and
Del.icio.us.

Unexpected finds included LibraryThing, social bookmarking and web based applications.

I am inspired to find out more about wikis and podcasts, and take my journeys with LibraryThing, Rollyo, social bookmarking, and web based applications further.

I am awed at the technology out there. I think the possibilities are overwhelming. I look forward to using these technologies in the future.

#22 Audiobooks (or "The end is in sight ")

I was delighted to discover a whole range of free Audio books. This is something our library is already involved in. However such a service is still in its infancy. It will be exciting to see its development.

I like the many different search categories in Project Gutenberg, and how it is easily accessible and free.

I think the technology will suit those who prefer/need audio.

#21 Podcasts, Smodcasts!

I used Podcast.net to search for Podcasts.

I found a Podcast that interests me - Gliding Over Varese.

Library-wise, I found Rachel's Reviews. I added it to my Bloglines account. It was interesting to see the many different Podcast out there. I am excited by such great variety.

The Book Reviews would be of interest to Library borrowers. I think Podcasts could be used not only for Book Reviews and Latest News, but also a summary of Books and Series.

Podcasts are user friendly for those with hearing. I think there may be great potential for our library, being a library for the print handicapped, with many users already dependent on audio material and familiar with it.

#20 You too can YouTube

I like the different categories, channels and community. I like how it lists views and ratings.

I do not like it garish presentation or the advertisements. I do not like how the videos always have to stop every little while.

I chose the video Embarcadero Blues by Goh Nakamura as I am an amateur guitarist and singer, and admire anyone who can do the two to a high standard, and combine them so well.

I think videos could be useful on library websites as an outreach tool. Maybe staff could record presentations or skills sessions.

#19 Discovering Web 2.0 tools

I looked at the Web 2.0 Awards and found the site 'Findory'. This site searches for information in different publications, with a subscription option. I like how it gives the user different types of media options to search, how it is nicely laid out, has a large search box, and is light.

One of it useful features tells you how many articles you have viewed, searches you have performed, and how many favourites you have.

People in libraries may use this to keep tabs on any issue that interests them.

#18 Web-based Apps: They're not just for desktops

I learnt about web based applications, a new concept to me. I was pleased to learn of their existence, and think they have potential to help many people. I learnt how one can do many things with web-based applications – including word processing, spreadsheets, wikis, presentations, databases – on the web. I learnt how they can be accessed from multiple user points (good for multi-site use and commenting from different parties), and how they be shared. I learnt how they use tags, and can even be posted to blogs. And each application has many different features to make each document individualized.

#17 Playing around with PBWiki

I learnt how to add an entry to the sandbox wiki. I found it very exciting to be able to add something to an international site.

#16 So what’s in a wiki?

I learnt about wikis. I looked at websites created by universities and others, designed to help readers access information about a particular topic. I like it how anyone can add information, to create a collaborative resource.

Wikis could be used by borrowers to write book reviews or synopses, and discuss individual books or series.

#15 On Library 2.0 & Web 2.0 ...

I learnt about Web 2.0 and Learning 2.0.

The new technologies facilitate new ways of learning and interacting. The use of this new technology gives the user more control over their environment. Linkages are created between people that may not have been created otherwise.

In reference to Away from Iceberg and Into a new world of librarianship

There is a lot to be said for aiming to make libraries of the future freely accessible to users. I think it is admirable that librarians are trying to make everything accessible online, promote user-paced online learning, and direct the learning materials to the client via the Internet. This also means that many clients will be able to use the one resource all at the one time.

#14 Getting not-so-technical with Technorati

I learnt about Technorati. A useful information gathering tool. I like how one can search for anything in any blog.

Searches brought up targeted results. Popular searches brought up relevant results. I liked how the graph showed how many mentions there had been in the past month.

I think this may help some clients to find information on a specific topic.

I have tagged the post. I have also claimed my blog.

#13 Tagging, folksonomies & social bookmarking in Del.icio.us

I learnt about del.icio.us. I think it would be useful for those with wide ranging interests, or alternatively, a very specific focus.

I like how it manages favourite websites – bringing order to chaos!

I like how it categorizes websites, is accessible from any computer, and can increase ones knowledge in a particular area.

#12 Roll your own search engine with Rollyo

I learnt how to create a Searchroll using Rollyo. I like Rollyo because one can search for a specific thing in targeted sites. It would be useful for someone wanting to search for something in a specific type of website or websites. For example only those dealing with the subject of vision impairment.

#11 All about LibraryThing

I like how LibraryThing connects you with others with similar reading interests, see all sorts of information about a book, gives you ideas for future reading,

It could help borrowers to form relationships with other like-minded readers, or give them ideas for future reading.

#10 Play around with Image Generators

These are great because one can use their creativity to create new things.

I like this one because it creates patters out of textual material which are pattern-like in themselves.

#9 Finding feeds

Which method of finding feeds did you find easiest to use?
I like the direct method. It is a targeted approach. Once found, it is simply a matter of going to the icon directly.
Which Search tool was the easiest for you? I liked Feedster - it searches a wide variety of feeds, is easy to use, has relatively clearly delineated sections, and the search box fits neatly into the screen frame.
Which was more confusing? Topix.net - too much clutter!
What kind of useful feeds did you find in your travels? Librarians' Internet Index - a world of information on a wide variety of subjects!
What other tools or ways did you find to locate newsfeeds? Bloglines' list of the current popular websites.

#8 Make life "really simple" with RSS & a newsreader

What do you like about RSS and newsreaders? I like it how all the latest information on one's chosen topic are served up to the reader in one place.
How do you think you might be able to use this technology in your work or personal life? I think I will be able to use it to keep abreast of the latest developments, and discover all the latest relevant information on my chosen topics, both of work and personal interest. I anticipate that this will increase my awareness of current developments.
How can libraries use RSS or take advantage of this new technology? Libraries can use it to keep clients updated on the latest developments pertaining to their library.

#7 Blog About Technology

Technology has grown rapidly in recent years. It has opened up a wide range of possibilities, and altered many processes.
In a short space of time, the way we do things has altered. For example, the Internet has given many people access to previously privileged or difficult to obtain information. Email has provided a means of connection with others previously unimaginable.

#6 More Flickr Fun

I discovered the flickr website travelr. I like this web application because it allows one to see a physical journey in geographic space through a number of successive photographs.

#5 flickr

Dancing (oil, 2000)

This painting is textured and full of movement. It focuses on a central lake around which the coloured forms 'dance'.

This week I have learnt about flickr and its groups, how it uses tags and descriptors, and how to upload an image. This technology appeals to me because it involves images and their sharing amongst interested people. It gives one access to images that may not be viewable otherwise. In this way, it is educational.
However, as most of Vision Australia's library clients are vision impaired, I am unsure about the relevance of this technology to our library.

#4 Register your Blog

I am doing Learning 2.0. I hope that I will enjoy using this new form of communication, and look forward to learning all that Learning 2.0 has to offer.
