#20 You too can YouTube

I like the different categories, channels and community. I like how it lists views and ratings.

I do not like it garish presentation or the advertisements. I do not like how the videos always have to stop every little while.

I chose the video Embarcadero Blues by Goh Nakamura as I am an amateur guitarist and singer, and admire anyone who can do the two to a high standard, and combine them so well.

I think videos could be useful on library websites as an outreach tool. Maybe staff could record presentations or skills sessions.

#19 Discovering Web 2.0 tools

I looked at the Web 2.0 Awards and found the site 'Findory'. This site searches for information in different publications, with a subscription option. I like how it gives the user different types of media options to search, how it is nicely laid out, has a large search box, and is light.

One of it useful features tells you how many articles you have viewed, searches you have performed, and how many favourites you have.

People in libraries may use this to keep tabs on any issue that interests them.

#18 Web-based Apps: They're not just for desktops

I learnt about web based applications, a new concept to me. I was pleased to learn of their existence, and think they have potential to help many people. I learnt how one can do many things with web-based applications – including word processing, spreadsheets, wikis, presentations, databases – on the web. I learnt how they can be accessed from multiple user points (good for multi-site use and commenting from different parties), and how they be shared. I learnt how they use tags, and can even be posted to blogs. And each application has many different features to make each document individualized.

#17 Playing around with PBWiki

I learnt how to add an entry to the sandbox wiki. I found it very exciting to be able to add something to an international site.

#16 So what’s in a wiki?

I learnt about wikis. I looked at websites created by universities and others, designed to help readers access information about a particular topic. I like it how anyone can add information, to create a collaborative resource.

Wikis could be used by borrowers to write book reviews or synopses, and discuss individual books or series.

#15 On Library 2.0 & Web 2.0 ...

I learnt about Web 2.0 and Learning 2.0.

The new technologies facilitate new ways of learning and interacting. The use of this new technology gives the user more control over their environment. Linkages are created between people that may not have been created otherwise.

In reference to Away from Iceberg and Into a new world of librarianship

There is a lot to be said for aiming to make libraries of the future freely accessible to users. I think it is admirable that librarians are trying to make everything accessible online, promote user-paced online learning, and direct the learning materials to the client via the Internet. This also means that many clients will be able to use the one resource all at the one time.

#14 Getting not-so-technical with Technorati

I learnt about Technorati. A useful information gathering tool. I like how one can search for anything in any blog.

Searches brought up targeted results. Popular searches brought up relevant results. I liked how the graph showed how many mentions there had been in the past month.

I think this may help some clients to find information on a specific topic.

I have tagged the post. I have also claimed my blog.

#13 Tagging, folksonomies & social bookmarking in Del.icio.us

I learnt about del.icio.us. I think it would be useful for those with wide ranging interests, or alternatively, a very specific focus.

I like how it manages favourite websites – bringing order to chaos!

I like how it categorizes websites, is accessible from any computer, and can increase ones knowledge in a particular area.

#12 Roll your own search engine with Rollyo

I learnt how to create a Searchroll using Rollyo. I like Rollyo because one can search for a specific thing in targeted sites. It would be useful for someone wanting to search for something in a specific type of website or websites. For example only those dealing with the subject of vision impairment.

#11 All about LibraryThing

I like how LibraryThing connects you with others with similar reading interests, see all sorts of information about a book, gives you ideas for future reading,

It could help borrowers to form relationships with other like-minded readers, or give them ideas for future reading.

#10 Play around with Image Generators

These are great because one can use their creativity to create new things.

I like this one because it creates patters out of textual material which are pattern-like in themselves.
